Karitane Campbelltown Early Parenting Service

Karitane’s new campus in Campbelltown Hospital is blessed with great outdoor spaces which have the potential to offer highly effective and powerful healing environments to support and enhance the work of the centre.

These outdoor spaces are important not simply as places of beauty or for incidental outdoor play, but as therapeutic spaces. It is now well-researched and proven that a connection to nature is powerfully healing; our physical bodies come into balance as heart rates steady, blood pressure drops, inflammation within the body reduces, anxiety levels drop, children calm and can focus more easily.

Gardens are extraordinary places in which healing happens and life, wonder and joy can be found. These outdoor courtyards can significantly support the Karitane staff and their work to achieve healing for children and parents. However, as the staff and managers of Karitane have identified, the outdoor spaces in their current form (previously designed for adolescents) do not serve the the staff in their work as they could – and should.

Our work created courtyard gardens for Karitane Campbelltown that are built with appropriate materials and are equipped with the appropriate facilities – for children, First Nations and for staff rest. We will design courtyard gardens which are hard-working, vibrant, therapeutic – and lovely.
