Edie’s Place

Edie's Place is a facility supporting people affected by domestic abuse - designed in collaboration with Architects BVN.

A garden built for healing.

Gardens are extraordinary places where healing happens, where life, wonder and joy can be found. When Edie's Place came to us, centred entirely around the idea of a garden, we felt the obvious wisdom in that vision immediately. Our work was to honour it: to create a garden that holds and nourishes the extraordinary, brave work of those who come here both to give support, and to receive it.

A garden that works hard and feels generous.

This garden had to do many things at once including offer communal gathering and private seclusion, movement and contemplation, play for children and rest for staff, noise and deep quiet. Good function was essential, alongside beauty, resilience, flood management, screening from the highway, and planting carefully chosen to thrive without demanding constant attention. A garden of ease, as well as life.

Designed with deep gratitude.

Above all else, this project called on the very best of our garden-making. Not only our horticultural and technical foundations, but our sense of responsibility and privilege to be part of it. Edie's Garden must be, and will be, a place of beauty and life.
